Bryophyllum Artwork and Bible Verse Reflection for February 2026
The Season of February 2026
As I reflected on what February of 2026 would be like, I knew it would be a season of Chinese New Year preparation and celebration. We would be counting money, but more importantly I wanted us to be counting our blessings. In the world we live in, it is so easy to compare ourselves with others and focus on what we do not have. As this verse stands on our desks, I want it to remind us that we can only be fully satisfied in God, and that all we have is given by Him, entrusted to us as stewards to use for His glory.

The Bryophyllum – Mother of Thousands
The Bryophyllum is an interesting plant that multiplies by growing its tiny babies around the edge of its mother leaf. Another name for it is Mother of Thousands. I first came to know this plant through my older cousin Jo. I was around nine years old when she told me about this fascinating plant. I still remember her drawing it on a piece of paper and telling me it would make a wonderful bookmark. There was such wonder in the way she described it.
Ephesians 3:20-21 – God’s Immeasurable Power
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Decades later, as I painted the Bryophyllum for this month’s artwork, I thought about that childhood wonder, and about this verse. God’s power at work within us produces life we cannot measure, growth we did not orchestrate, and abundance beyond what we ask or imagine.
Like those tiny plantlets emerging from the leaf’s edge, God’s work in us multiplies in ways we cannot predict or control. We simply hold the leaf. He does the immeasurable.

A Reflection for the Lunar New Year
With Lunar New Year around the corner and a fresh year stretching before us, may we trust that what God is growing in and through us is far greater than we can see right now. When we are tempted to compare, to count what is missing, or to measure our worth by what we have, may this little plant remind us that our Father is able to do far more than we could ever imagine.
The Next Time You See a Bryophyllum
The next time you see a Bryophyllum, pause and remember that God is at work within you. Remember that His power produces fruit in ways you cannot always see. Remember that what He is growing in your life may be more abundant than you realise.
